Tesla Pushes Roadster Event to October 15 Over Severe Weather

Tesla has rescheduled its long-awaited Roadster event, moving it from October 1 to October 15 because of severe weather forecast for central Texas.

Tesla Roadster event rescheduled to October 15

In a post on X, Tesla said: "We've been tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists, but given the severe conditions predicted & because this event can only be held outdoors, we've made the difficult decision to reschedule. New date is October 15." The company said additional details would follow.

Invitations for the original date placed the event near Waco, Texas, beside SpaceX's McGregor rocket test site. Electrek reported that Tesla had emailed invitees earlier that day warning the event "must be held outdoors" and might be moved.

The forecast supported the decision. EVXL reported that the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the McGregor area through the morning of October 2, with a 90% chance of thunderstorms and 2 to 3 inches of rain forecast for October 1.

The outdoor requirement has added to speculation about the demo. Reports say it is planned as a remote-controlled hover using SpaceX cold gas thrusters, with nobody inside the car. Tesla has not confirmed that, and the plan remains a rumor. Tesla has said the event will reveal pricing, specs and production targets.

The delay is the latest in a long series for the second-generation Roadster, first unveiled in 2017. Electrek notes production is still guided for 2027 or 2028.
